WEAPONS OF DEATH  (1977)  Original title: "Napoli Spara."  Great crime drama/poliziesco thriller, concerning a slimy underworld boss (played by Henry Silva) who sends a reign or terror through Naples with a string of purse-snatchings, bank robberies, and explosions.  A tough cop (played by Leonard Mann) is sent to stop the violence before more innocent people are killed.  Also stars Ida Galli, Jeff Blynn, Massimo Deda, and others.  Directed by Mario Caiano.  Dubbed in English.  (A-/B).

WEB OF DECEPTION  (1971)  Also known as: "Sorriso Del Ragno."  Hard-to-find Italian crime.  Woman participates in jewel smuggling, but keeps some of the loot for herself.  The local mob then sends hit-men after her, and she must ask for her boyfriend's help in thwarting the assassins.  Stars Thomas Hunter, Gabriele Tinti, Elena Nathanael, Leopoldo Trieste, and others.  Directed by Massimo Castellani.  Dubbed in English.  (A/A-).

WEB OF SILENCE: AIDS  (1994)  Original title: "Ragnatella del Silenzio: AIDS."  Rare Italian exploitation about a guy (played by Geoffrey Coplestone) who has secret affairs away from his wife.  He, however, is spreading disease through his own private circles.  Directed by Leandro Lucchetti.  Dubbed in English.  (B/B-).

WEEKEND MURDERS  (1970)  Original title: "Concerto Per Pistola Solista."  Highly sought-after giallo from director Michele Lupo, which takes place in England, at an aristocrat's estate.  After the reading of a will, several family members begin turning up dead.  A bumbling police sergeant (played by Gastone Maschin) begins piecing together the clues, and at last narrows in on the killer.  Also starring Anna Moffo, Ida Galli, Giacomo Rossi-Stuart, Orchidea De Santis, and others.  Upgrade!!  Dubbed in English.  (A-/B).  [PAL].

WHITE COMANCHE  (1968)  Also known as: "Comanche Blanco."  William Shatner stars in this Spanish western, both as a half-breed Indian killer and the twin brother that wants to stop his cruelty and bring peace to a small town.  Above-average entry which also stars Joseph Cotten, Rossana Yanni, Perla Cristal, and others.  Directed by Gilbert Kay.  Dubbed in English.  (A-/B).

WIDE-EYED IN THE DARK  (1974)  Also known as: "Eyeball."  Longer import print of this violent Umberto Lenzi giallo, about a group of Spanish tourists stalked by a raincoated killer in Madrid.  The killer gouges his victims' eyeballs out in a variety of gruesome ways.  Contains much additional footage not found in Joseph Brenner's U.S. release.  Stars Martine Brochard, John Richardson, Silvia Solar, Ines Pellegrini, and others.  Letterboxed.  Dubbed in English, with Dutch subtitles.  (B/B-).

WILD BEASTS, THE  (1984)  Import print of this decent urban disaster flick from director Franco E. WILD TEAM, THE  (1985)  Original title: "Squadra Selvaggia."  Great action film from director Umberto Lenzi.  A team of mercenaries must go into South American jungle to rescue a kidnapped kid.  Starring Ivan Rassimov, Antonio Sabato, Werner Pochath, Franco Fantasia, Sal Borgese, and others.  Dubbed in English, with Dutch subtitles.  (B/B-). 

WILD, WILD PLANET  (1965)  Also known as: "The Galaxy Criminals."  A deranged scientist (played by Massimo Serato) is using his employer's top-secret bio-laboratory to engage in clandestine eugenics experiments. When he starts kidnapping leading citizens for use in his twisted tests, it's up to rogue cop Mike Halstead (Tony Russel) to come to the rescue of all, including his lady friend Connie Lisa Gastoni), who is also being held captive by the madman.  Antonio Margheriti directs this top-notch space opera also starring Franco Nero, Carlo Giustini, Enzo Fiermonte, Umberto Raho, and others.  Letterboxed.  Dubbed in English.  Upgrade!!  (A-/B).

WITCH WITHOUT A BROOM  (1967)  Original title: "Una Bruja Sin Escoba."  Jeffrey Hunter plays an American professor on a time-travel adventure in Spain.   He becomes the object of desire of a beautiful 15th century apprentice sorceress who takes him on an odyssey from the Stone Age to a futuristic Martian jaunt.  A romantic fantasy filmed in Spain.  Also stars Maria Perschy, Gustavo Rojo, Perla cristal, and others.  Directed by Jose Maria Elorrieta.  Dubbed in English.  (A-/B).

WITCH'S CURSE, THE  (1962)  Original title: "Maciste All'Inferno."  Engaging cross between witch-burning horror and heroic peplum sees Maciste, the film's muscle-bound, loincloth-clad hero, uprooting a tree and travelling into the depths of hell to lift a witch's curse and save an innocent woman's life. Along the way he has to battle various foes such as lions, eagles, giants, snakes, you name it. WITHOUT APPARENT MOTIVE  (1971)  Original title: "Sans Mobile Apparent."  Suspenseful French giallo/ thriller.  A series of murders is committed in Nice on the French Riviera. WOMAN OF THE RIVER  (1955)  Original title: "La Donna del Fiume."  Early Italian crime/drama tale.  When peasant girl Nives (Sophia Loren) is deserted by smuggler Gino Lodi (Rik Battaglia), she betrays him to the police. Police officer Enzo Cinti (Gerard Oury), who loves Nives, traces her to the Po River cane-fields, where she is working as a cutter to support herself and an infant son, and warns her that Gino has escaped from prison and is seeking revenge.  Directed by Mario Soldati, with a big-band score by Angelo Lavagnino and Armando Trovaioli.  In color.  Dubbed in English.  (A-/B).

YOUNG DRACULA  (1975)  Also known as: "Dracula in the Provinces."  Oft disregarded film from horror master Lucio Fulci. A man is bitten by a vampire and tries everything he can to destroy the curse.  This is a comedy vehicle for Italian funny man Lando Buzzanca, but of most interest for its offbeat humor, and a nice and very substantial cameo from John Steiner as the gay Romanian vampire called Count Dragulescu, it is he who puts the bite on the hapless Buzzanca. Sylva Koscina looks good, Rossano Brazzi is wasted, and the rest of cast performs admirably.  Also stars Moira Orfei, Ciccio Ingrassa, Valentina Cortese, and others.  Dubbed in English, with Greek subtitles.  (B/B-).

YPOTRON  (1965)  Scientist Dr. Morrow has been kidnapped and agent Logan (played by Luis Davila) is assigned to the case. ZAN, KING OF THE JUNGLE  (1970)  Outrageous Spanish-Italian Tarzan rip-off from director Manuel Cano.  Zan (played by Steve Hawkes) is a white man who happens to be king of the jungle.  But the black natives want him dead, so they can get after the treasure of the Amazons.  Zan befriends the Amazon queen (Kitty Swan), who tells him the secret of the treasure.  Later, Zan is shot by one of the blacks, but is saved by an old gold prospector.  Zan repays him with some of the gold, but when the old man returns to town the jealousy of some locals are incited, and they kill him to find out where the gold is hidden.  Matters are further complicated when the prospector's daughter shows up, to find her father and bring him back to civilization.  But the criminals have set their eyes on her as well..  Also starring Antonio Casas, Jesus Puente, Fernando Sancho, Krista Nell, and others.  Written by Umberto Lenzi.  Dubbed in English, with Greek subtitles.  (A/A-).

ZORIKAN THE BARBARIAN  (1964)  Original title: "Zorikan Lo Streminatore."  Very rare sword and sandal, which stars Dan Vadis as a Saracen warrior hired to plunder the Christians and steal their sacred relic.  However, Gino (played by Walter Brandi) and his comrades aren't about to let tyranny hold sway in their land.  Low-budget costume trash also starring Luigi Batzella, Eleonora Bianchi, Philippe Hersent, and others.  Directed by Roberto Mauri.  Dubbed in English.  (B/B-).

ZORRO AT THE COURT OF SPAIN  (1962)  Riccardo De Villaria (played by Giorgio Ardisson) returns to his native kingdom after a long journey, only to discover that a tyrant has assumed rulership over the land.  Meanwhile, a mysterious black-masked avenger arises, whose appearance coincides with Villaria's return.  Also stars Grazia Maria Spina, Carla Calo, Franco Fantasia, Livio Lorenzo, Nazzareno Zamperla, Nerio Bernardi, Alberto Lupo, Tullio Altamura, and others.  Directed by Luigi Capuano.  Dubbed in English.  (A-/B).

ZORRO THE FOX  (1968)  Also known as" El Zorro."  George Ardisson stars in his second role as the titular character- the first one being Luigi Capuano's "Zorro at the Court of Spain", made some years earlier.  Don Pedro, captain of the guards, and the alcalde Don Jaimez, desiring to unite two of the greatest provinces in Mexico, attempt to destroy the nobles who oppose their plan.  However, Zorro soon shows up, turns the tables on them, and busts banditos out of prison to go for the throat.  Also starring Femi Benussi, Spartaco Battisti, Giacomo Rossi-Stuart, and others.  Directed by Guido Zurli.  Dubbed in English, with Greek subtitles.  (B/B-).  [PAL].
